Diyarbakır Transport and City Guide
Is there a bus from Diyarbakır Airport?
Yes. Municipal lines such as Z2, Z3 and Z7 connect the airport with different parts of the city. Timetables and routes do change from time to time, and there may be no service late at night, so check the municipality’s current information before you travel.
The bus works well if you have little luggage and flexible timing. If you are arriving with a group, with children or with several suitcases, or staying on the narrow lanes inside Sur, a direct car is more practical. For a door-to-door option, see our Diyarbakır hotel transfer page.
Where is Diyarbakır Airport?
Diyarbakır Airport is in the Bağlar district, just south-west of the city centre. Its IATA code is DIY and its ICAO code LTCC. It is a joint civil and military airfield, and the civilian terminal is run by DHMİ, the Turkish state airports authority.
Being so close to town is a real advantage: Dağkapı is only about 7 km away, and the central districts of Sur, Yenişehir and Kayapınar are a short drive. Addresses in Bağlar itself are closer still. For door-to-door trips to any of these areas, see our Diyarbakır hotel transfer page.
Where are Diyarbakır’s bus and train stations?
Diyarbakır’s main bus station is on the west side of the city in the Kayapınar district, and most intercity coaches leave from there. The railway station is closer to the centre and is served by trains such as the Güney Kurtalan Express. Train and coach times change, so check the operator’s current schedule.
If you are connecting between the airport and the bus or train station, a private transfer helps you make it on time with your luggage. For links to other parts of the region, see our Diyarbakır intercity transfer page.
Which area should I stay in Diyarbakır?
Three areas stand out, depending on why you are visiting:
- Sur: the historic city inside the walls, with the Great Mosque, Hasan Pasha Han and the Four-Legged Minaret within walking distance. Best for sightseeing.
- Yenişehir (Ofis): government offices, business centres, cafés and restaurants. Handy for work trips.
- Kayapınar: the newer district to the west, with shopping malls, chain hotels and the bus station nearby.
All three are a short drive from the airport. See our Diyarbakır hotel transfer page to plan the ride to your hotel.
How do I get to the hospitals in Diyarbakır?
Diyarbakır is one of the main medical hubs of the region, and many patients come from neighbouring provinces for treatment. The Dicle University Faculty of Medicine hospitals act as the regional referral centre, while Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital in Kayapınar and Memorial Diyarbakır are also frequent destinations. The new city hospital under construction in Kayapınar has not opened yet.
A car timed to your appointment takes patients and companions straight from the airport or hotel to the hospital entrance. Note any wheelchair or mobility needs when booking. See our Diyarbakır hospital transfer page.
Which cities have flights to Diyarbakır?
Several airlines serve Diyarbakır Airport. Turkish Airlines flies to Istanbul; AJet to Ankara, Sabiha Gökçen, Bursa and Trabzon; Pegasus to Sabiha Gökçen, Ankara, İzmir, Cologne and Ercan. SunExpress connects Antalya, İzmir, Düsseldorf and Hannover, with seasonal flights to Berlin, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. Routes change with the season, so check the airline’s current timetable.
Flights from Europe often land late at night or early in the morning, when a car waiting at arrivals with your name and a tracked flight is most useful. See our Diyarbakır VIP transfer page for details.
