Diyarbakır to Adıyaman Transfer: what to know

The Diyarbakır to Adıyaman Transfer is a private, door-to-door ride between Diyarbakır and your address in Adıyaman. More routes are listed on Diyarbakır city centre transfer.

Which way does the road to Adıyaman go?

The first part is shared with the Şanlıurfa road: the car heads southwest past Karacadağ to Siverek. From Siverek the road turns west and descends to the Atatürk Dam reservoir, crossed here by the Nissibi Bridge, completed in 2015. Before the 610-metre cable-stayed bridge opened, people crossed by ferry; the old road bridge had gone under water when the reservoir filled. The bridge noticeably shortened the drive between Diyarbakır and Adıyaman.

After the bridge the road reaches Kâhta and continues to central Adıyaman. On a Diyarbakır to Adıyaman transfer the Nissibi Bridge is the most photographed point, with the wide reservoir and the two pylons visible from afar. Stopping on the bridge is not possible, but a short break at a viewpoint on the approach or near Kâhta is.

Why does Kâhta matter for Mount Nemrut?

Most Nemrut visitors start from Kâhta. The giant statues and tumulus on the summit lie within Mount Nemrut National Park, together with Arsameia, the Karakuş Tumulus and the Cendere Bridge. The Cendere Bridge is a 120-metre Roman stone bridge over the Kâhta stream, built in the name of Emperor Septimius Severus. The Karakuş Tumulus is a burial mound for women of the Commagene royal family; its column with the handshake stele fell in the 2023 earthquakes.

The east terrace is the first place on the mountain to see sunrise, and most visitors aim for either sunrise or sunset. Combining the Diyarbakır Adıyaman transfer with Nemrut therefore means a night in Kâhta or Adıyaman. The last part of the summit path is on foot; good shoes and a warm layer help, even in summer.

Where do you go in central Adıyaman, and when?

Drop-off is usually a hotel, the Adıyaman University campus, a hospital or a family home. Adıyaman was among the provinces hit hardest by the earthquakes of 6 February 2023, and much of the centre is being rebuilt, so the driver picks the current route around building sites. Engineers and technical teams working on reconstruction use this route often.

The summit road on Nemrut is closed by snow in winter, so late spring to autumn is best for the summit. Summer is very hot around Siverek and the reservoir, so leave early. In winter the driver checks the Karacadağ stretch for snow. Payment is made during the trip, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours ahead. The Diyarbakır to Adıyaman transfer can be booked one way or as a multi-day Nemrut programme.

The road to Adıyaman

Frequently asked questions

Can we visit Mount Nemrut as a day trip from Diyarbakır?

If you want sunrise or sunset at the summit, a day trip is hard: the drive is long and the last part of the summit path is on foot. We suggest a night in Kâhta or Adıyaman. For the lower sights such as the Cendere Bridge and Arsameia, returning the same day is possible.

Can we stop for photos at the Nissibi Bridge?

Stopping on the bridge itself is not possible for safety reasons. However, a short stop at a suitable point overlooking the reservoir and the bridge, on the approach or after crossing to the Kâhta side, can be arranged. Mention it in your booking and the driver will add the stop to the plan.

Can I book a child seat for the Adıyaman transfer?

Yes — add the child’s age in the booking notes and the car is prepared accordingly.

Can I book the return from Adıyaman as well?

Yes — tick “Add return” in the form and both legs are planned in one booking.
